Promenade ....

We did it!!!! We have taken the lead by a whopping 50,000 points! Way to go CCSD #66 families!

But, there is still a lot of time left in this program. The winner is not determined until April 30th, so let’s keep up the momentum and keep logging those receipts!

Although school is out after Friday, there are still two weeks to earn triple points for the district, so keep logging those receipts at the mall office. If you have any unlogged receipts, you can turn them into school by Thursday morning (December 15th) for us to log them in for you and still return them back to school by Friday morning.

Remember, all Promenade stores within the mall – including restaurants, Bass Pro Shop and the iPac theater – are participating. The outlot stores and stores across Janes Avenue from the mall (this includes Jared, Potbellys, Starbucks, Meijer, Longhorn Steakhouse, Famous Daves, etc) are NOT included in this competition.

Thanks for your continued support!

Student Council Stuffed Animal and Children's Book Drive

During the week of November 7th, the Lakeview Student Council is sponsoring a stuffed animal and children's book donation drive. We will happily accept any gently used or new stuffed animals or picture books. All collected items will go the Dupage County Court House Safe Harbor room which provides child care for families that are in court. When children leave the child care room they are invited to take a book or stuffed animal with them. This provides comfort to a lot of children. Any donations would be greatly appreciated!

Fun Run with Mr. Rodda

On Monday, October 17, 2011, the Lakeview Cross Country Teams were able to honor one of their coaches, Mr. Paul Rodda. Coach Rodda will be retiring this year and has been a Cross Country Coach for 28 years at Lakeview. There was a "Run with Rodda" day on Monday. The entire team and many of their parents attended to participate in a team "Fun Run" with their parents and then a final one mile run with Mr. Rodda leading the way! The turnout was great and Mr. Rodda received a "Coach" shirt from the State Finals meet this past weekend, where the Boys Cross Country Team placed Third. This has been a remarkable season for the Boys and Girls Teams and all the hard work has earned the teams many honors. Mr. Rodda will be missed for many years to come. The teams and parents came out to Lakeview to show their appreciation for his years of involvement and hard work and he was very grateful!

Mrs. Conley's Homebase

Mrs. Conley's Sixth Grade Homebase has truly embraced the concept of PBIS and team work. New this year students can "pool" together their Spartan Stars and redeem them for a group prize (playing the Wii Game System). This group of students quickly achieved this prize and began brainstorming new ideas. They decided they wanted to eat lunch together outside and proposed the number of Stars they would need to redeem this prize. Today, September 13th, was a beautiful day for lunch outside as a homebase. Not pictured is Mrs. Conley, who graciously gave up her lunch period to eat with her students! Way to show Spartan Spirit and model PBIS in sixth grade!!!

Busy, Busy, Busy!

We may only have been in school for two weeks now, but things are in full-swing and we are busy, busy, busy!
Tonight is the Dance-A-Thon from 6-9 p.m. Tomorrow, Saturday, the Marching Spartans will be performing at the Von Steuben Day Parade and Monday is Curriculum Night for all Lakeview Parents from 6:45 - 9:00 p.m.

PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports)is off to a strong start in year two throughout the district. Both Lakeview and Prairieview kicked off PBIS the first full day of school and Elizabeth Ide finished up their kick-off this week. Ask your children if they have earned a STAR or PAW yet!

The Lakeview students and staff are very thankful to our PTO for purchasing some great "PBIS Prizes" for this year. We have a new picnic table outside the front doors that students can redeem as a prize for PBIS and we also have a Wii Game System for homebases to redeem as a prize also. A special thanks to Mrs. Peg Nuccio, our PBIS Parent Representative, who obtained several coupons for "free bowls" at Noodles & Company which will also be used as PBIS prizes.

Dress Code & Bullying Hotline

Welcome Back!

As I have been reminding students the past two days, school dress code is in affect. Please refer to page 35 of the Lakeview Parent Student Handbook for complete details on dress code. Remember, all shirts or blouses must have sleeves and skirts/shorts must be at least mid-thigh. Students who are in dress code violation will be asked to change. If they do not have something appropriate to change into items will be provided for the day. Your support in this matter is greatly appreciated.

District 66 has revised our bullying policy. This policy can be found in the handbook. Additionally, a phone line has been established to allow students and/or parents to report incidents of bullying. Bullying reports can be made by calling our district hotline at: 630-783-5210.

Congratulations to Mr. Safranski

Lakeview Jr High is proud to announce that Eighth grade social studies instructor, Mark Safranski, was made a New Member of the US Army War College's National Security Seminar. The National Security Seminar is the annual capstone event of the US Army War College graduate program that prepares the future senior leaders of the US Army, as well as select officials from the State Department, the intelligence community and foreign governments. Mr. Safranski was nominated to become a New Member by Dr. Steven Metz, Chairman of the Regional Strategy Department of the Strategic Studies Institute, the US Army's official think tank.

In June, Safranski, along with other civilian New Members from a broad range of professional backgrounds, will attend a week long seminar at the US Army War College in Pennsylvania devoted to problems of national security, defense policy and the conflict in Afghanistan. Mr. Safranski has edited or was a contributing author to a number of articles and two books in the fields of strategic studies and national security and has taught social studies at Lakeview Jr. High School since 1994.

Penny Wars!

The Lakeview Junior High Student Council is organizing a “Penny War” each school day during the week of April 11 – 15th, The goal of the “Penny War” is to help raise funds for two important causes: The American Red Cross and Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy. During the “Penny War”, 6th 7th and 8th graders are encouraged to donate spare change and dollar bills. All coins will count as positive points towards their class. For example, a 6th grader who donates a quarter will earn 25 points for the 6th grade class. All paper money will count as negative points. Students who bring in paper money will want the negative points to go towards the other class's donations. In other words, 7th grader donating a $5 bill would want to place the negative 500 points in the 6th or 8th grade container. This is where “war” strategy is important! The class that earns the most points wins!
100% of the proceeds will be split between the American Red Cross's effort to help Japan and the Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy.

PBIS Celebration

Today, in celebration of earning Ten Pounds of PAWS, as part of the PBIS Program, the Lakeview students were treated to an assembly of Teacher vs. Student Snowball. Snowball is like dodgeball, but played with yarn balls. Seventy-five student names were drawn out of the ten pounds of PAWS and those students earned the ability to participate in the games. Fun was had by all and our new goal for PBIS will be set soon ...
