Happy Thanksgiving!

I would like to take this opportunity to wish all the Lakeview Families a Happy Thanksgiving! Hopefully you will eat good food and find time for rest and relaxation.

The Lakeview students have been busy these past few weeks. The Student Council and Make A Difference Club have organized a Stand Up For Kids Drive. Stand Up for Kids is a nationally acclaimed volunteer organization dedicated to helping homeless, runaway and at-risk youth in over 42 cities nationwide. They not only feed and clothe children, but also attempt to encourage and motivate them by providing straightforward mentoring, emergency resources and help find them the tools they need to get off the street. The Lakeview students have been collecting donations and will continue to do so until November 24th. Donations include: single serve food items that are healthy and don't require cooking, fruit juice, socks, winter hats, winter gloves & sweatshirts.

Safety Reminder When driving on the campus at dismissal time

When students are dismissed at the end of the day, at Lakeview, we have stationed a teacher out by the stop light. The teacher “holds” the students at the corner, so that all of the buses can quickly exit while the light is green. Once the buses have passed, then students are allowed to cross with the cross walk signal.

Unfortunately, several parents have pulled up to the light, which is green and they proceed without noting that there are children in the crosswalk who have the signal to cross. I ask that you please be a cautious driver on the campus during dismissal.

Our student’s safety is our main concern! Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

Welcome Back!!!!

Welcome Back to School Everyone! The 2009-2010 school year is off to a fantastic start! I hope everyone had a relaxing and enjoyable summer. My husband and I added a new puppy to our family this summer so it was less than relaxing, but Romo, our new puppy is adorable.

Today is day three and students are back into the swing of things. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns throughout the year. Email, phone calls or stopping by in person are all great ways to get your questions answered.

Please make sure the office has your current email address. We will send out "Week in Review" emails on Friday for the following week. These emails will contain important information such as try-out dates / times for sports, upcoming club meetings etc. You will not want to miss this information!

If you have not volunteered to help PTO with their activities this year I encourage you to do so soon! The Lakeview PTO does a lot of great things for our teachers and students and this is a great way to stay involved in your adolescent child's life!

Eighth Grade End of the Year Activities

Today, I will be meeting with all of the eighth grade students and sharing with them the information regarding the end of the year activities. Your child should bring home a packet explaining the same information as well as the fees that are required for these events.

On Monday, June 1, 2009 students will be heading to Navy Pier for a day trip aboard the Odyssey Boat and a little site seeing on Navy Pier. Prior to our departure parents are welcome to come to school to take pictures and see all of the students together. As I will be sharing with students, dress for this event should be dressy, but comfortable as there will be walking involved. (So, new dress shoes and formal gowns might not be such a wise choice for the day!)

Graduation is set for Wednesday, June 3rd at 7:30 p.m. in the Lakeview Gym. Due to a large number of graduates and limited seating each student will receive four tickets to graduation. Should your family not require all of those tickets please return extra tickets to the office so we can share them with families who would like more than the four allotted tickets.

If you have any questions once you have received the packet of information please feel free to give me a call.
