Martin Luther King Day
- There is no school Monday, January 21, 2008, but how many of your children know why? Monday is Martin Luther King Day. Most school children don’t care why there isn’t school; just that there isn’t! · Martin Luther King was born on January 15, 1929 in Atlanta Georgia
· He died on April 4, 1968 at the age of 39 in Memphis Tennessee
· He was one of the main leaders of the American Civil Rights Movement
· King is most famous for his “I Have A Dream” speech in March 1963 in Washington D.C
· In 1986 Martin Luther King Day was established as a national holiday in the United States · Dr. King’s birth certificate was mistakenly recorded as “Michael King”, but not discovered until 1934
- King is one of the ten 20th century martyrs from across the world that are depicted in statues above the Great West Door of Westminster Abbey, London
